Wolverhampton speedway star Skornicki in fitness fight

Wolverhampton's Adam Skornicki is facing a race against time to make the start of the new speedway season.

Skornicki, who is making a comeback after two years out of the sport, fell awkwardly on Sunday in Peter Karlsson's farewell meeting at Monmore and hurt his shoulder.

He didn't ride in Monday's Wolves team practice or participate in the team go-kart session as a precaution.

Wolves face Poole at Monmore on Monday in the first leg of the Premiership Shield with the return in Dorset 48-hours later.

Promoter Chris Van Straaten said: "It will be a case of making a late decision over Adam."

"The only option available to us will be the rider replacement facility to cover for him so he can give it the weekend to see how he feels.

"Obviously it would be a shame for us to start the season without Adam and we wish him all the best and hope for some good news on Sunday."
