Little to cheer about as Rushall Olympic fall at home to Mickleover Sports

There was little festive cheer for Rushall Olympic as they slipped to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Mickleover Sports.

The first chance of the game fell to the home side when a scramble on the edge of the area saw the ball fall out to Alex Reid who fired inches wide with the keeper well off his line.

It was Mickleover Sports who took the lead on 13 minutes when Adam Baskerville went down under the challenge of Jose Veiga to win a penalty which he stepped up and slotted home.

Chances were at a premium at either end as the half went on. A free-kick from Isaac Cooper was pushed away by the keeper whilst at the other end, Andy Dales was denied by a smart save from Veiga.

An important headed clearance off the line by Joe Hull denied the visitors before Veiga got his fingertips to a free-kick from Dales to turn the ball around the post.

The second goal arrived for Mickleover with two minutes remaining of the first half when Pablo Mills headed home from close range following an inviting ball into the danger zone.

Hall went close for the visitors early in the second period whilst Jazz Luckie saw an effort flash across the face of goal for The Pics.

It was a scrappy affair with neither side able to get a hold of the ball and play.

Rushall pulled a goal back with seven minutes to go as Joe Hull was on hand to guide the ball home through a crowd of players but a late corner from The Pics somehow stayed out as the league leaders fell to a home defeat.
