Steve Clarke is keen on signing Spurs striker Jermain Defoe but faces competition from Newcastle and Stoke.

Albion and Newcastle could also go head-to-head for the signature of Chelsea forward Demba Ba, who is certain to leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer window closes.

And out-of-favour Sunderland player Stephane Sessegnon is also said to be on Steve Clarke's radar with deadline day on the horizon.

Liverpool and Everton are in the hunt for Albion target Victor Moses, with the Reds said to be readty to agree a £1.5m loan fee with Chelsea for the 22-year-old winger.

Swansea could be priced out of a deal for Albion striker Peter Odemwingie, after a £4m price tag was slapped on the Nigerian.



Midfielders Marc Albrigton, Stephen Ireland and Barry Bannan could all be on their way out of Villa Park before the transfer window closes.

Bannan is being targeted by Premier League newboys Crystal Palace while Albrighton and Ireland are both being lined up for Championship loan moves, with Middlesbrough said to be interested in Ireland.
