Stafford Rangers boss Greg Clowes is so unimpressed by the debut of Jason Beardsley he could be axed from the squad for Saturday's FA Trophy trip to Chester.

Beardsley played the full 90 minutes of Tuesday night's 2-0 Staffordshire Senior Cup defeat at Leek but has been accused of "strolling" by the Rangers boss.

Now the former Derby County, Notts County and Macclesfield right-back could now find himself replaced by rookie Joe Rogers in Saturday's squad.

Rogers has been playing for Midland Alliance outfit Ellesmere Rangers and his appearance on Tuesday was only meant to be a one-off.

But, with Luke George also coming out of the game as a doubt with a swollen ankle, Rogers is staying at Marston Road - for now.

The 19-year-old, like George, can operate at right-back or centre-half and could even start on Saturday, while Beardsley could be omitted altogether.

Clowes said: "Since Paul Donnelly has been injured, nobody has shown me that they want the right-back slot.

"Jason had a stroll around the other night and, based on that performance, he's probably out of the squad.

"Joe will be in my squad on Saturday and he may start, he deserves to on a performance like that.

"His attitude and commitment to whatever he does is unquestionable and he wants to be at Stafford Rangers."
