Walsall have appointed local businessman and lifelong supporter Leigh Pomlett as a director as they continue their boardroom reshuffle.

The 53-year-old, who has worked for some of the UK's biggest blue-chip companies, pledged his commitment with a long-term loan.

He said: "Becoming a director of the club is realising a long held ambition and, having made a substantial loan into the club, I'm absolutely delighted to be in a position to help the club continue to progress both on and off the field."

New chief executive, Stefan Gamble said: "He's a passionate supporter with diverse business experience and I'm sure he'll be an asset.

"He has an excellent understanding of our supporters and will play a key role, along with the others members of the board and key personnel at the football club, in engaging with our fans as we look to move the club forward with one common goal - the future success of Walsall."

After graduating from Liverpool University in 1980, Pomlett joined the then Government-owned National Freight Consortium and has worked in the road transport and logistics industry ever since.

Pomlett has also been president of Exel Automotive Worldwide and chief executive of Mainland Europe for both Exel and DHL - both market leaders in transportation and logistics.

The father-of-three said: "I've been a Walsall supporter for over 40 years."
