Hundreds of families enjoyed a series of attractions as Gnosall Carnival marked its 30th year basked in a summer glow.

It started with more than half-a-dozen floats, mainly filled with children, parading through the streets, starting in Wharf Road and finishing at the fields at St Lawrence School.

They were joined by the likes of the Stafford Brigades Marching Band and vintage cars.

Then on the fields a range of stalls were set up along with games ranging from archery to hook a duck for children.

A main arena was set aside for a range of attractions from dance acts, gymnastics to tug of war competition.

A 10k run from Gnosall Sports & Social Club towards Newport and onto the old railway line to finish on the school field was also part of the carnival day.

Around 2,500 are believed to have attended and amongst those enjoying the attractions and entertainment were Sarah Black, her children Amelia, aged four and eight-month-old Euan along with nephew Callum Baker, seven.

The 33 year-old physio of Cowley Lane said: "It is really good, it is a good family occasion, it gets everyone together and a sense of community.

"Everyone gets involved and there is a lot for the little ones, it is a colourful event. The weather is nice for it."

Alison Oldfield, Lee Wood and four year-old Alex who dressed as a clown also joined in the fun during the afternoon.

Alison, of The Cloisters and who is in her 30s, said: "It is fantastic every year, I have been coming 18 years.

"It is a nice community atmosphere, there is something for everybody. It's been good because of the weather."

Kate and Andrew Howell of Fountain Fold were joined by five year-old Eliott and James, two, while daughter Gracie, six, was part of the procession.

Civil service worker Kate, aged 35, said: "It is just lovely, all the village comes out, it is a lovely atmosphere. The parade is the main attraction. Everyone seems to enjoy it.

Bob Winfield, chairman of the Gnosall church carnival committee, said: he was pleased with the turnout. "It is one of the best weeks we have had for weather the week before and on the day. I am very pleased," he said.

The event was held to bring the community together and also raise cash towards the restoration of St Lawrence Church.
