Update: November Remembrance

It was quite a Remembrance weekend with the eleventh of the eleventh parade on the Friday.

We had a good service, led by Padre Powell, and parade. It was so pleasing to see so many of the Civic Centre staff in the crowd.

Unfortunately, Mick (my husband) had health problems and we had to miss the funeral of our friend Brian Fellows in the afternoon.

In Bilston, we joined the Staffordshire Regiment Association in a short ceremony of Last Post and Reveille, after which crosses were put on the known graves of the men of the Staffordshire Regiment who are buried there. As they are scattered around the site, this took a little time, but all were honoured. Our afternoon ended with the bugler playing assembly in the centre of the cemetery to honour the men. A convivial drink of mulled cider and all declared the afternoon a job well done.

On Sunday, I had a poor start, missing the actual parade, after being delayed in the Civic Centre, but I took a number of nice photographs and the morning went quite well. We had a lovely turnout of veterans and I think we were all pleased to see a good contingent of younger personnel.

Remembrance Sunday is also the day our Sea Cadets honour Seaman Harris, whose memorial is in St Peter's gardens.
