VJ Day

On August 15, Wolverhampton will remember those who fell in Burma.

Even when they were brought home, the prisoners of war were smuggled into the country so as not to upset people because of the state they were in.

The VJ parade is usually quite small, with a march of veterans and standards from the Civic Centre to the Burma Star memorial, which is in the grounds of the Cenotaph for a short memorial service, including two minutes silence.

This is done to honour those who fought in the far east. Wolverhampton does have a few Burma Star ex-servicemen, but they are getting older and diminishing in number every year.

Like VE Day, whether this will continue as a separate parade when the last ones are gone is open to speculation.
