Ye Olde Toll House Willenhall

We (hubby and self) recently had business in Willenhall and decided to have lunch at Ye Olde Toll House on Walsall Road. We had passed many times, but it never thought to drop in.

Firstly, the car park was nice and even to walk on, not a given in this day and age. Too many places ignore that side of the welcome.

The entrance seemed a bit narrow and there were spare tables near the coat hangers and the toilets, but they have to go somewhere I suppose, and it might have been a one off. There seemed to be steps everywhere, except in the dining room itself.

The lady who welcomed us was very nice and very polite (a lost art) when she showed us into the lounge area where we could browse the menu and have a drink. We were a bit disappointed that the only draught beer was Boddington's, which turned out to be surprisingly good for a venue of this type. We've been to places where their idea of beer was lager, but nothing like a real beer or ale.

We moved to the main dining room for our meal of chicken supreme with roasted root vegetables and herb mash, all of which was delicious. We decided that we would also try a pudding, so ordered crumble for me and cheese with biscuits for Mick. Both were really good, and Mick was even asked what type of cheese he preferred. Coffee was included, and very good it was too, and nicely served.

The cost was £10 each for two courses and coffee plus other drinks on their pensioners' deal.

I did wonder about disability access and facilities for young children (they have a nice children's menu) and was reassured that there is a ramp available for wheelchairs and suitable facilities for young children.
