Anti-racism group Kick It Out has a chairman, Sanjay Bhandari, who proclaims the "taking the knee" gesture has origins over 200 years old in the origins in the movements to abolish slavery. He condemns those football fans who booed their teams for doing it.

It would be interesting to know how many players "taking the knee" actually knew of the gesture before the death of George Floyd. Virtually none would probably not be wide of the mark.
