LETTER: Council consultations a waste of time

I have received a letter from South Staffordshire Council regarding future development in the Bilbrook and Codsall areas, advising that consultations are to be held, and the views of local residents are to be considered.

Whilst I am aware that this notice is mandatory, I am quite sure it is the view of the many residents that I speak to, that such consultations are a complete waste of time and money, as forward planning has already been decided.

I am sure the council will have noticed from the poor turnout at local elections how disillusioned residents have become about the lack of worthwhile action on matters that have been the subject of numerous complaints for many years, I repeat, many years, namely appalling roads and footpaths, lack of road infrastructure to relieve the ever increasing traffic and air pollution, lack of parking and medical facilities.

While council magazines are continually full of self praise for the facilities available, the true fact is that they are responsible for over-looking the real problems and allowing the planning masters within central Government to decide the future of local people, when these people are not even aware of the present day concerns.

For many years development in this area has been a case of putting the cart before the horse, and while we have people in local government who will not stand up and represent us in a positive manner, the situation will only get worse.
