Donald Trump travel ban: Almost 70pc of readers back state visit - Vote in our poll now

Almost 70 per cent of Express & Star readers say Donald Trump's state visit to the UK should go ahead.

And the majority of respondents to our online poll have also backed the US President's controversial ban on people from seven Muslim nations entering America.

A total of 64 per cent of 4,500 people who have taken part in the poll believe Mr Trump was right to impose the policy, which has also temporarily stopped refugees from entering the United States.

Mr Trump has accepted the offer of a state visit to the UK, and 69 per cent of those who took part in the poll say he should be welcomed to Britain.

The travel ban has prompted widespread anger across the country, with protests taking place this week in several towns and cities, including Birmingham.

Dozens of readers have taken to the Express & Star website to air their views on the issue. One of them, Old Bill, hit out at MPs, peers and the BBC who he says have no respect for British values and have now taken to attacking the electoral process in the US.

He said: "They now stand in blind panic trapped like rats in a barrel – and its absolutely wonderful to watch."

And west brom baggieboy said: "This man has backbone and he will say what most people think.

He pointed out that countries from which US attackers have originated are omitted from the ban, which he says is 'partly because Trump businesses operate there'.

But he added that scrapping Mr Trump's state visit would have 'dire political consequences for the UK'.
