These days, the thing you really don't want to see after a storm is not a felled tree or a flattened fence. It is the little red light glowing on your router to signal that your wi-fi, which ought to glow solid, reliable blue, is down.

But at least you know in a day or so Openreach will have fixed the line and all will be well.
My post-storm problem goes deeper. The little light is still blue but the screen symbol that fires up my email refuses to work.
I have tried the usual remedy (a long walk) but still it won't play. There's nothing like cyberspace to make you feel utterly, helplessly hopeless, is there?
