A baby seal has been rescued from a paddock a long way from water by a well-meaning farmer.

Dee Knapp shared a video on his Facebook page showing him discovering the little fur seal on Monday as he went to check on his livestock in Southland, New Zealand.

As he approaches the little ball on the ground, he can be heard saying: “What the hell, that’s a baby seal!”

Knapp told 1 News Now that the Department of Conversation told him to leave the seal to find its own way back to the beach.

However, he felt the pup would be at risk of being trampled by cows or attacked by other wildlife, so he decided to help the little guy out by dropping him off.

Another member of the family shared a video of the seal’s release back into the sea in the comments of the original post, showing the pup swimming happily away.

Utterly adorable.
