Tonight marked a somewhat controversial guest on The Andrew Neil Interviews: Ukip leader Paul Nuttall.

He follows Theresa May, Jeremy Corbyn and Nicola Sturgeon in the hotseat, with Tim Farron still to go. However, the fact that Nuttall was featured at all has caused some debate.

Regardless of whether you agree with his inclusion in the series of interviews, you can be sure that Neil gave Nuttall quite the grilling.

Neil has pulled no punches when interviewing previous party leaders, and tonight he wasn’t giving Nuttall a break with questions like “Isn’t it true that Ukip is becoming increasingly irrelevant?” and “You’re not the man to save Ukip, are you?”

Nuttall’s performance under such pressure divided opinion. Many just weren’t buying the things he said – the wide-ranging interview included his controversial opinions on capital punishment and a burqa ban.

But there were those who did think he managed to hold his own.

The final instalment of The Andrew Neil Interviews will feature Lib Dem leader Tim Farron this Thursday.
