Donald Trump posed for an awkward selfie with one of Israel's most controversial politicians
The US president is the only person the Likud party’s Oren Hazan follows on Twitter.
Donald Trump was forced into taking an awkward selfie with one of Israel’s most controversial politicians as he touched down in Tel Aviv.
The US president was greeted by diplomats and dignitaries as he arrived at at Ben-Gurion International Airport for a two-day visit of Israel and Palestine, following his visit to Saudi Arabia.
Among those waiting to welcome Trump was Oren Hazan, a politician of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, who has a colourful reputation for inappropriate antics.
After greeting Trump with a firm handshake, Hazan whipped out his phone and said: “I wish I could do a selfie with you.”
Trump, seemingly unamused, then posed for a photo with the controversial politician despite the awkward protests of Netanyahu, who attempted to push Hazan’s arm away.
Following the incident, Hazan wasn’t invited to the welcome ceremony as Likud politicians said he “caused a great embarrassment to Netanyahu”.
Hazan has proved controversial throughout his two years in office. The 35-year-old has been accused of assaulting a public official, procuring prostitutes, providing drugs to tourists at a casino in Bulgaria, sexual assault, and mocking a fellow MP in a wheelchair.
