Job losses: Major cuts since the start of the pandemic

Debenhams said that 12,000 workers are at risk after the high street announced plans to enter liquidation.

Thousands of retail jobs are set to go after high street stalwart Debenhams said it will wind up it operations after failing to secure a rescue deal.

The department store chain has already cut thousands of roles after falling into administration, but said the remaining 12,000 jobs are now at risk due to the looming liquidation.

It came hours after rival Arcadia Group, which runs brands including Topshop, Burton and Dorothy Perkins, confirmed that 13,000 roles are at risk after it tumbled into administration.

It adds to more than 250,000 job losses or potential redundancies announced since the start of the pandemic.
