Weather warnings in place across Ireland as Storm Gareth arrives

Strong winds have battered Ireland as Storm Gareth arrived.

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for Northern Ireland until midday on Wednesday, with gusts of between 70mph and 80mph expected.

In the Irish Republic, Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange wind warning for the western counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo until 9am.

Gusts reached up to 80mph at Malin Head in Co Donegal.

P&O Ferries cancelled two sailings from Liverpool and Dublin on Tuesday night due to weather conditions.

While in Belfast Harbour, the planned departure of the cruise ship Astoria was delayed due to conditions.
