Cyclist dies after crash with car
The 37-year-old died on the way to hospital after a crash on the A89 on Wednesday evening.
A cyclist has died after crashing with a car near a former West Lothian hospital.
The crash happened at around 5.20pm on Wednesday on the A89 at Dechmont, near Bangour Hospital.
The 37-year-old cyclist was travelling east when he was seriously injured in the collision with a Mercedes C220 car heading west.
Emergency services attended the scene and the man was pronounced dead on the way to hospital.
Police are appealing for information about the incident which caused the road to be closed for around seven hours.
Sergeant Brian Smith said: “Sadly, as a result of the collision, the cyclist lost his life and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“A number of people who were driving on the road at the time stopped to assist and we are thankful to them for their assistance.
“I’d ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision, and has not yet spoken to officers, to come forward to assist with our inquiries.
“Any driver who may have dash-cam footage is also asked to get in touch and provide this at their earliest opportunity.”
