A man has appeared in court over the death of a motorcyclist in a crash.

Allan Nicholson, 24, was thrown from his red Suzuki motorbike following the collision with a white Ford Mondeo at around 6.45am on Saturday.

The incident happened on the northbound carriageway of the A725 East Kilbride expressway, around half-a-mile south of the Raith Interchange.

Emergency services attended and Mr Nicholson was pronounced dead at the scene.

William McLean was driving the car and treated for minor injuries at Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride.

The 34-year-old appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday charged with road traffic offences which cover death by dangerous driving and being unfit to be behind the wheel due to intoxication.

He made no plea and was released on bail to reappear at a later date.
