A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle on the M5.

West Mercia Police said the pedestrian, aged in his 50s, was on the carriageway “for reasons yet to be established” when he was fatally injured in Worcestershire at around 1.45am.

The motorway was closed in both directions between Junction 3 and Junction 4 at Frankley Services for around seven hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Police are now appealing for anybody who was travelling on the motorway at the time to get in contact.

Inspector Russ Barker said: "The M5 is a central route for people travelling across the country and we're keen to speak to anyone who was on the stretch of the motorway between junction 3 and 4 near to Frankley Services early this morning."

The road was reopened shortly before 9am.

Any witnesses should contact West Mercia Police on 101 quoting reference 55s 031118.
