A dangerous driver has admitted killing a 20-year-old woman in a two-car crash following a police chase.

Branden Daniels pleaded guilty to causing the death of Sarah Giles and serious injury to two men by dangerous driving after an Audi A3 being pursued by police collided with a Volkswagen Golf on July 29.

Ms Giles, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen, died after the collision while the vehicle’s driver and a passenger in the Audi, Connor Donnelly and Dalton Banks, were critically injured.

The 20-year-old defendant bowed his head throughout the short hearing at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday.

The court was told how Daniels’s IQ level was at the “lowest on the spectrum” after his guilty pleas to the three charges were entered.

Adjourning sentence, Judge Michael Chambers QC told Daniels: “You have had the courage to plead guilty to these offences that, as you recognise, are very serious matters.

“Although a very significant custodial sentence is inevitable, it is very important that the sentencing judge knows as much about you as is required.

“In the meantime, you must remain in custody.”

In a statement released after her death, Ms Giles’s parents paid tribute to their “loving daughter”, saying: “She brought sunshine into the lives of everybody who knew her, with her wonderful smile and beautiful heart.”

Daniels, of Chingford Road, Kingstanding, Birmingham, will be sentenced at the same court on November 23.
