Pair deny murdering man who was attacked in supermarket

Two men have denied murdering a 26-year-old who was attacked inside a Morrisons supermarket.

Nick Singh, also known as Nick Rogers, was allegedly assaulted inside the store at Wymondham, near Norwich, shortly before 8pm on July 17 and he died in hospital the following day.

Lee Monk, 19, and his uncle John Monk, 43, appeared by videolink at Norwich Crown Court on Friday charged with Mr Rogers’s murder on July 18.

Both men spoke only to confirm their details and to deny charges during the 20-minute hearing.

The pair also deny assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Leo Wardrop on July 17.

Lee Monk, of Silfield Road, Wymondham, wore a white polo shirt and has close-cropped brown hair, while John Monk, of Albini Way, Wymondham, is bald, heavily built and wore a blue t-shirt.

They sat together beside a prison officer as they appeared by videolink from Norwich Prison.

Judge Stephen Holt remanded both men in custody ahead of a trial at Norwich Crown Court on December 4.

The hearing was moved to a larger courtroom to accommodate more than a dozen people in the public gallery.

In a written tribute, Mr Rogers’s stepfather Andrew Steadman said: “Behind the typical young lad bravado, Nick was a warm and caring soul and would always help others where and when he could.

“His loss will leave a huge void in our lives.”

Mr Rogers’s mother, Sue Rogers, said: “Words cannot describe the overwhelming, gut-wrenching sadness and anger we are all feeling at the loss of Nicholas.”
