A 40-year-old man has been stabbed to death on his doorstep in what police are calling a “brutal attack”.

West Midlands Police were called to the mortally wounded man in Tenby Road, Moseley, Birmingham just after 10.50pm on Sunday night.

The victim, named locally as private hire mini bus driver Sajad Hussain, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead soon after.

A police cordon is in place while forensic teams look for clues and detectives have also been going door-to-door.

Meanwhile, a neighbour said Mr Hussain, known locally as “Saj”, had been having a cigarette outside his home when he was attacked.

The man, who gave his name as Abdul, said: “He always comes home from work and then he has a cigarette outside his house. That’s when it happened.”

He added: “He’s lived here about 10 years, I think. I’ll say this for him, he’s a working man – he has a mini bus and takes people around and he is always working, every day.

“He goes out to work, comes back, and then this happens. It’s such a shock. It’s shaken the whole community.”

Throughout the day, white-suited forensics officers have been at the scene and neighbours told how police had been searching under cars for any sign of a weapon or other clues which might lead to the killer.

A blue scene of crime tent was also up outside the terraced house, where the attack is thought to have happened.

Parked across the street was a Toyota mini bus which is believed to have belonged to the victim.

A forensic post mortem will take place later on Monday.

Detective Inspector Paul Joyce, from force CID, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have heard anything which could assist our investigation.

“A man has tragically lost his life and we need to establish why he was the target of such a brutal attack.

“We have specialist officers supporting the victim’s family members and we want to help give them answers by catching whoever was responsible.”

Anyone with information can contact police by calling 101, extension 863 3195, or ringing Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Meanwhile, a 20-year-old man was found with stab injuries to his head and neck in Haselour Road, Kingshurst, on Sunday morning and later died.
