A prison has built an invisible barrier to prevent drones from flying over the fence, it has been reported.

The Sky Fence system creates a 2,000ft shield around the jail and will prevent drones smuggling in contraband such as drugs and mobile phones.

It is being installed at Les Nicolles prison on Guernsey as part of security upgrades costing £1.7 million, the Guernsey Press reported.

When drones are detected in the designated no-go area, a signal is emitted which sends the device back to where it came from.

The technology has been developed by Eclipse Digital Solutions and Drone Defence.

Prison governor David Matthews told the paper: “The new systems and Sky Fence were a great investment.
