West Midlands Metro announces temporary change to service for 'familiarisation training' for drivers
Metro passengers have been advised of a temporary change to services to help drivers familiarise themselves with a new route extension.
West Midlands Metro have put out a message to say that services from Wolverhampton St George's station will be terminating at Bull Street from Monday to allow drivers to follow the new Eastside extension via Millennium Point, with passengers then able to board services at Corporation Street.
The Eastside extension will provide new and improved public transport links to the east of Birmingham city centre and Digbeth and will connect HS2 Curzon Street Station to the Metro network, with four permanent West Midlands Metro stops serving the east of Birmingham City Centre.
A spokesman for West Midlands Metro said: "To allow driver familiarisation to take place on the new Eastside extension on the metro line, from Monday, March 16, there will be a temporary change to West Midlands Metro services, as follows:
"Trams departing from Wolverhampton Station will run as normal and serve all stops.
"Trams departing from Wolverhampton St George’s will terminate at Bull Street.
"The driver will then drive out of service to Millennium Point to complete their training and route familiarisation, rejoining the network at Corporation Street, where customers can board again.
"Services from Edgbaston Village towards Wolverhampton are unaffected."
