The M5 southbound exit slip road at junction 2 in Oldbury has been closed this morning due to a spillage on the carriageway.

Highways England officers have said that the spillage is at the junction 2 island.

A spokesperson for Highways England said: "The spillage is on the island itself and is mud or earth. It is covering two of the three lanes at the roundabout.

"Because of the two lanes being closed it was causing traffic to queue back up onto the slip road and the motorway, it was a safety issue.

"Police reported it to us just after 8am and we are not sure where the mud has come from.

"We are working now to get it cleaned as quickly as we can and have sweepers at the scene."

Traffic officers and Central Motorway Policing Group are at the scene.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area if travelling this morning.

It is not yet known what time the junction will reopen.
