Man dies after falling from bridge on M5

A man has died after falling from a bridge onto the M5 in the Black Country.

The man suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, between Junction 3 for Quinton and Junction 2 for Oldbury.

Police said his death is not being treated as suspicious.

The motorway was closed in both directions for around an hour.

An air ambulance and two land ambulances were sent at around 9.30am.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called after a man fell from a bridge on the M5 between junction 2 and 3 just after 9am today.

"He suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious.

"The motorway has since reopened."

Jordan Eggington, spokeswoman for the ambulance service, said: "We were called at 9.11am to an incident on the M5 between junctions 2 and 3.

"We sent the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, two land ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car and HART to the scene."

Traffic was backed up for around three miles as a result of the closure.

All lanes have since reopened.
