Businesses and drivers faced disruption since March 2018 when work commenced on the new tram route past the city's bus station to the railway station.

Pipers Row has been partially closed for months as the West Midlands Metro line was re-routed from St George's to create better links for bus and rail passengers.

The Midland Metro Alliance, which is behind the project, revealed all works will finally be completed by November 10.

But a number of road closures will be put in place before that date as it enters its final stages.

What roadworks are planned in the coming weeks?

Bilston Street is closed between Market Street and the roundabout until this Saturday, between 7pm to 4pm, also for resurfacing.

Trams will continue to serve the St George's stop as usual during the five-day spell.

Work will then halt in the city for just over four weeks – with the majority of pedestrian and traffic barriers removed.

Queen Street was closed while works as part of the wider project were carried out

But it will resume for two weeks from October 27, with Pipers Row closing in both directions between Bilston Street and Castle Street, during half-term until November 3.

Road resurfacing will be carried out with buses using the adjoining bus station rerouted – exiting the station directly onto the A4150 Ring Road St Davids.

And the final stage of work will take place between Railway Drive and Castle Street for one week until November 10.

New paving and kerbs will be laid and benches installed as work finally comes to an end.

Why is the work being done?

The work is part of the extension of the Midland Metro tram line to connect the current end of the line at Wolverhampton St George's to the railway station.

It all forms part of a multi-million pound project to boost transport links which also includes the ongoing redevelopment of the railway station.
