Two people cut free and rush-hour delays after M54 crashes

Drivers on the M54 faced long delays during rush-hour this morning after a crash involving three vehicles near Shifnal.

Both westbound lanes were closed for about half-an-hour following the crash between junction three, for Albrighton, and junction four, for Shifnal, at 8.20am.

Highways England said nobody was seriously injured but the incident caused substantial delays.

Emergency services were also called to a collision involving a HGV and two cars on the westbound carriageway of the M54 at 12.50am today.

It happened between junction two, for Wolverhampton, and three, for Albrighton.

One person had to be freed from a car by firefighters using hydraulic cutting equipment.

Meanwhile there was major disruption on train lines after a man was hit by a train in the Black Country.

The man died after being struck near Sandwell and Dudley station at around 7am.
