The northbound carriageway had three lanes closed between Junction 4 and 4A after a multi-vehicle crash just after 9am.

A separate lorry crash also caused lane closures between Junction 15 and 16 near Newcastle-under-Lyme.

There were long tailbacks throughout this morning after an overnight crash.

The lorry left the carriageway and came to rest through a boundary fence with an adjacent field while spilling tyres over the road.

Shortly after 11.30am a car fire was also causing delays between Junction 8 and 9 on the northbound carriageway.
