Bellways is building 141 new homes at the site off Cannock Road, in Stafford, which has been left disused since 2010.

The development – known as Baswich Grange – will be made up of three, four and five-bedroom homes and the first few plots will be released to the public on Saturday from the housebuilder’s nearby Mallard Walk development, off Doxey Road, Stafford.

Marie Richards, head of sales for Bellway West Midlands, said: “We are so pleased that the building work at Baswich Grange is progressing well and we are looking forward to welcoming the first visitors.

“There is a growing demand for homes in Stafford, and we are delighted to be able to help meet that need by transforming this brownfield site into a brand-new community.

“We have worked closely with the local authority to ensure we are providing a range of homes to suit local people, from first-time buyers to downsizers and growing families.

“The new homes have already generated a great deal of interest, so I would encourage anyone interested to act now to avoid missing out.”

Diggers moved in to start clearing the 16-acre site last month. Bellway bought the site from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for £15 million last year.

Progress on the housing scheme follows a fraught history for the site that has seen two developers withdrawing offers and concerns over increased traffic.

The site has been empty since February 2010 when the police force moved to a new purpose-built headquarters in Weston Road.
