What is it like to live in Stourbridge? We take a closer look this week in the latest from our 'Moving to' series.

The town of Stourbridge has a population of around 55,000 and takes its name from the River Stour, which runs through the town.

It is best known for it's rich history of glass-making and Stourbridge Glass is still considered among the finest in the world, although many of the companies have moved abroad in recent years.

With close proximity to both big cities on one side and peaceful English countryside on the other, it is well connected.

And many major music artists have come out of the town too – Pop Will Eat Itself and Ned's Atomic Dustbin are among the famous sons of Stourbridge.

Transport:

With itss relatively close proximity to Birmingham, Dudley and Wolverhampton, Stourbridge is well-placed for commuters.

Stourbridge Junction rail station serves the town on the Birmingham to Kidderminster line and has car parking for nearly 800 vehicles.

There are also a number of bus routes and the location of the River Stour, making it possible to navigate the Stourport Ring by boat, a popular choice for tourists.

Schools:

Primary: There are over twenty primary schools in the Stourbridge area. The 'Outstanding' schools in the area are Greenfield Primar, Oldswinford CofE and Pedmore CofE.

Secondary: Old Swinford Hospital has around 60% of pupils as 'boarders' and is rated as an 'Outstanding' school, as is Haybridge High School.

Redhill School and Specialist Language College has over 1,000 students and was rated as 'good' in its last Ofsted inspection.

Edgecliff High School and The Wordsley School are also considered 'good' while Pedmore Technology College and Ridgewood High School are both rated 'Satisfactory.'

Property prices:

The average house price paid in Stourbridge over the last three years is £203,468. The average home value has increased in that time by 1.02%, an average monetary gain of £2,145.
