Hundreds of letters, emails and social media posts have flooded into the Express & Star since the proposals emerged.

Votes totalling more than 16,000 have been cast in an Express & Star poll tabled after a debate on Powell's legacy last month.

Seventy per cent of people are in favour of a plaque for Powell, who was a Conservative MP in the city from 1950 to 1974.

He rose to notoriety following his Rivers of Blood speech in 1968.

Wolverhampton’s Civic and Historical Society announced it is considering proposals for a plaque after an application was submitted from an unnamed member of the public.

Thursday's Express & Star will carry the views of readers on the issue.

And there is still time to have your say on whether you believe a blue plaque should be erected for Powell.
