A Hednesford South seat is up for grabs on Cannock Chase District Council after former councillor Joanne Christian was booted off for failing to attend a meeting in six months.

While the other two seats were previously held by Graham Burnett who sadly passed away unexpectedly in June at the age of 59 following a heart attack.

Mr Burnett had represented the Hednesford Green Heath ward on the district council as well as the Hednesford and Rawnsley division on Staffordshire County Council.

At the time of his death he was deputy leader of the Conservative group in Cannock Chase and was shadow portfolio holder for housing having served on the council for seven years.

The two district seats will be keenly contested in particular with the Labour group only enjoying a slim advantage in the council chamber with 20 councillors out of the 41 in total including the two vacant seats.
