The former Deputy Prime Minister encouraged a large crowd gathered in the town centre to boo Mrs May, saying: "I know Jeremy (Corbyn) said don't boo but b***** it."

He added: "He (Jeremy) is a nice guy but that woman is not a nice woman."

Lord Prescott arrived at the town's bandstand in the Labour battle bus on Saturday to support the party's Cannock Chase candidate Paul Dadge on the final weekend before Thursday's vote.

In a passionate 30 minute address he hailed the Labour manifesto - entitled 'For the many not the few' - as the 'best ever'.

He said: "Is this the best manifesto you have ever had? It is far better than the one in 1997. We are far clearer on the issues.

"Our manifesto is about the many, not the few. What unites us is belief in fairness and justice.

"Every vote is important as the other. If you want Labour to come back here you have got to get out and vote and knock on people's doors."

He also attacked the Press saying they had been 'bought off' by the Tories because the Conservatives plan to axe the second part of the Leveson Inquiry and scrap legislation that would mean newspaper groups would have to pay both sides legal costs even if they won a libel trial.

He hit out at media proprietor Rupert Murdoch and also criticised Mrs May for keeping journalists 'locked in a room' and only allowing them to answer 'one question'.

He added: "I think the campaign is going wonderful.

"Education and health have been damaged and Theresa May won't debate it. Theresa May is not a woman to trust."
