Almost every vehicle manufacturer is exploring how semi-autonomous technology can be developed and applied for its cars. Now, these systems are making vehicles easier, more relaxing and – most importantly – safer to drive.

Nissan has already introduced semi-autonomous technology – called ProPilot by Nissan – to its popular all-electric Leaf, and has now added it to the hugely successful Qashqai SUV.

It’s launching first of all in dCi 130 XTronic vehicles, but will soon be available on all cars in the Qashqai range. There’s also a well-specified Pilot One Edition available from launch too, which comes with all of the bells and whistles you could want.

One of the biggest benefits of the ProPilot system over rivals is the fitment of a dedicated button on the steering wheel. Press this, and as long as you’re travelling over 37mph the autonomous tech will engage, taking control of the steering and throttle – so long as it detects that you’re still holding on to the wheel.

The Pilot One Edition has an extensive list of extras, including pearlescent paint, a leather interior and gloss silver door mirrors. Prices for this latest specification start from £33,425.
