The Tokyo Motor Show is always guaranteed to throw up some wild and wonderful ideas from the motoring world.

Over the years, many legendary, cool and wacky cars have been revealed there — such as the Nissan GT-R, Toyota FT-86 Concept and the Honda HSC.

This year’s show looks set to be no different — we’ve rounded up eight of the coolest cars at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

Honda Sports EV Concept

Honda arguably stole the Frankfurt Motor Show with its funky Urban EV Concept — and it may be set to do the same at Tokyo.

The Sports EV Concept is rumoured to preview an all-electric replacement to the legendary S2000 sports car. No further details have been revealed, but the teaser image shows a similar style direction to the Urban EV.

Mitsubishi e-Evolution Concept

Mitsubishi are reviving the Evolution name at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show with the e-Evolution concept.

Unlike its rally-car-for-the-road predecessors, the new e-Evolution concept is set to be an SUV featuring a powerful all-electric drivetrain.

Subaru Viziv Concept

Subaru’s last WRX concept was a hit at 2013’s New York Auto Show, but sadly the brash nature of the concept didn’t properly translate into the road car.

The Viziv Concept set to be unveiled at Tokyo this year looks to preview the next WRX and from the teasers, it may have a similar impact to the 2013 car. Time will tell if it makes it to production this time…

Toyota TJ Cruiser

Toyota will be showcasing its TJ Cruiser Concept at this year’s Tokyo show — which is being used to test public reaction to a lifestyle-focused SUV.

It features a boxy, rugged design with van-esque carrying capacity to hold anything owners may want to throw at it.

Nissan Intelligent Mobility concept

Nissan will be showcasing a concept developed entirely around its Intelligent Mobility technology — meaning tons of autonomous technology and kit to make driving safer.

Very few details have been released, but teaser images hint towards an SUV-like body style.

Nissan Leaf Nismo Concept

The new Leaf was only recently revealed, but Nissan will be showcasing the potential for a performance version of the new-generation electric car.

The Nissan Leaf Nismo Concept features more aggressive styling tweaks, retuned suspension, performance tyres and a more responsive throttle which Nissan says creates a “thrilling drive” — although there’s no word on increased power from its electric motor.

Toyota Century

One of the biggest icons in the Japanese motoring industry will see only its third generation in a 50-year production span.

The new Toyota Century will replace a car that has been in virtually unchanged production for 20 years.

The new luxury car features a hybrid system, as is the norm in 2017, paired to a perhaps unexpected 5.0-litre V8 engine.

Mazda Design Vision Concept

Set to preview the next step in Mazda’s design language, the Design Vision Concept is set to headline the Japanese manufacturer’s Tokyo line-up.

Few details have been revealed, but the teaser images suggest a four-door sleek saloon car, almost in the style of a modern-day RX7.

The 2017 Tokyo Motor Show takes place from October 25 to November 5.
