Superb facelift brings rugged Scout trim to flagship Skoda for the first time

Skoda has teased its updated flagship, hinting at styling cues and the introduction of a new trim

A new teaser video confirms that the updated Skoda Superb will be available in rugged Scout trim for the first time.

The Czech firm made the announcement in a flashy video posted to social media, which showed off the Scout badging. If the Superb variant follows that of the Octavia, expect an estate body shape with plastic mouldings on the body work and a raised ride height.

The news comes as Skoda builds up to the reveal of its flagship model’s mid-life facelift on Thursday May 23.

The updated model will receive minor aesthetic updates, full-LED headlights, and a number of technical changes borrowed from the latest Volkswagen Passat.

Perhaps the biggest change for the new Superb will be the addition of a new plug-in hybrid powertrain, another first for the firm’s top model. It will use the same 1.4-litre petrol engine and electric motor combination as the Passat GTE.

The modern Superb is now in its third-generation, revived in the early days of the VW Group’s ownership after 50 years out of the limelight. Prior to that, it had originally been launched as a flagship model in 1934.

Skoda is also set to reveal the all-electric Citigo-e at the event on Thursday. It’s expected to be based on the Volkswagen e-Up! but with more range than the 100 miles offered by its German sibling.
