Drunk woman accidentally orders Uber to Newcastle — from London

A woman has landed herself a £275 bill after accidentally ordering an Uber to Newcastle — after a night out in London.

Helen Dryden, 25, of Guildford, had requested a pick-up from the ride-sharing service following an evening in the capital with the intention of getting to her Surrey home. However, after falling asleep in the car, she awoke to find her driver heading much further North than she had planned.

It turns out Dryden had forgotten to change her account settings, leading to her asking for a ride to her old University address in the Tyneside city. By the time she awoke, she had made it as far as Milton Keynes before her driver checked if she really wanted to head to Newcastle.

“I couldn’t believe it. The whole day ended up costing me about £400”, Dryden said, speaking to Mail Online, “I feel so embarrassed. I was a bit too drunk and just fell asleep. I was devastated when I woke up. I feel really stupid and completely ridiculous.

“I got too drunk. I’m supposed to be getting more responsible as I get older but it’s not happening so far.”

Dryden told the publication she missed the last train home and had initially planned to stump up £80 to get back to Guildford from Shoreditch. However, her blunder resulted in a £275 fee — which she has yet to pay as a result of insufficient funds her in account. Rather than appeal the fee though, she’s planning to pay it on her next pay day.

“I ended up getting home at about 4am. I take responsibility for it because I got too drunk”, she added.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever done something like this. I’m devastated by it. It’s too much money to comprehend.”
