Ford to introduce electrified Fiesta and Focus models
Pair of electrified vehicles will be part of a new line-up of low-emissions vehicles
Ford is set to unveil electrified versions of its popular Fiesta and Focus cars.
The pair are being unveiled as part of a ‘comprehensive and compelling new line-up of Ford Hybrid and all-electric cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles’.
Both the Fiesta and Focus electrified models will be introduced next year, and will join the Mondeo Hybrid in the firm’s line-up of low-emission vehicles.
Steven Armstrong, group vice president and president, Europe, Middle East and Africa for Ford Motor Company, said: “Our new Fiesta and Focus EcoBoost Hybrid models are examples of Ford’s commitment to deliver new, more environmentally sustainable vehicles, sophisticated technologies, and valued services for our customers, and we have many more examples to announce in Amsterdam next week and beyond.
“We’ve gone to every length to develop mild-hybrid powertrains for two of our most popular cars that will help keep cash in customers’ pockets while remaining true to the Ford ‘fun to drive’ philosophy.”
The new Fiesta and Focus models will use a mild-hybrid system to help improve efficiency without reducing the overall driving experience. They’ll also be capable of recovering energy usually lost through braking and coasting, using the power generated to charge a 48-volt lithium-ion battery pack.
Ford will also be introducing mild-hybrid versions of its Transit 2-tonne and Transit Custom vans, as well as the Tourneo Custom people-carrier – all of which will go on sale later this year.
