Audi has revealed plans to offer 12 all-electric production cars by 2025, with the first joining its line-up in the coming months.

The German manufacturer has just pulled the covers off its first EV – the e-tron SUV – with deliveries beginning later this year. In 2019, the e-tron Sportback will make its debut to become the second battery-powered offering.

It doesn’t stop there, though, with 10 more to join the range over the next few years. Although full details of what these will be have yet to be confirmed, they will cover ‘every market from the compact to the full-size class’, said Audi, while an ‘Avant’ estate of some variety has been namedropped as well.

Audi is currently working with Porsche to develop the ‘Premium Platform Electric’ (PPE), which will be the basis of a number of machines for both firms under the VW Group.

Further still, Volkswagen itself yesterday revealed its MEB framework – the very first from the firm designed from the outset to accommodate electric vehicles. This will underpin a series of Audi’s electrified models too, covering the ‘A segment’, which comprises city cars.

The firm also confirmed it would expand its current range of plug-in hybrid vehicles, although it didn’t give any more details.

Peter Mertens, Audi board member for technical development, said: “In the future, virtually every market segment will include models powered by a combination of electric motors and a combustion engine that can be charged at an electric outlet.”
