Royal Enfield has launched a special-edition motorbike built with the memory of a wartime motorcycle in mind.

The new Classic 500 Pegasus Edition has been inspired by the RE/WD Flying Flea 125 motorcycle that was built by Royal Enfield during World War Two. The original was designed to be compact and easily transportable, and saw action in major engagements including D-Day and Arnheim.

Mark Wells, Royal Enfield’s head of global product strategy and industrial design, added: “These new Classic 500 Pegasus motorcycles encapsulate a lot of the history and legacy of Royal Enfield. Many brands have military motorcycles in their past, but only the Royal Enfield has the Flying Flea.”

Limited to just 1,000 models, the Classic 500 Pegasus features a maroon and blue Pegasus emblem, which is the official Parachute Regiment insignia. In addition, each bike gets an individual stencilled serial number, along with the famous Royal Enfield ‘Made Like A Gun’ decal applied to the battery box. Each bike is available in either Service Brown or Olive Drab Green – both wartime colours.

Each motorcycle also gets a set of canvas panniers, along with brown handlebar grips, blacked-out silencers, pedals and headlight bezel.

The Classic 500 Pegasus Edition is available from July, and is priced at £4,999.
