Porsche 911 Carrera T offers weight saving for better performance
Stripped-back model will cost nearly £8,000 more after getting upgraded technology
Porsche has revived a classic nameplate in the form of the 911 Carrera T, which offers a back-to-basics approach to the firm’s iconic sports car.
The model continues the German car manufacturer’s recent trend towards building more driver-focused sports cars such as the 911 R and GT3 Touring.
Based on the Carrera line of 911s, which mark the entry to the sports car range, the 911 Carrera T gets upgraded equipment over the standard model and has been on a diet.
The rear seats have been removed, sound-deadening has been reduced and lightweight glass has been fitted at the rear. Despite these and various other weight-saving measures, the 911 Carrera T is just 20kg lighter than a standard model.
Further upgrades over the Carrera include Porsche’s sports chassis, a shortened gear lever and unique 20-inch alloy wheels in grey. Rear-axle steering, which is typically found on high-spec 911 models, is available as an option on the 911 Carrera T.
Inside, there are sports seats as standard, with the option of full bucket seats for the first time in a Carrera. Exclusive to the T is the option of red, silver, or yellow accenting for the interior, while door loops replace handles as in other pared-back 911 models.
Power comes from the 365bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine common to the base Carrera models, but performance is aided by a better power-to-weight ratio and shorter gear ratios. The 0-60mph sprint is 0.1 seconds faster at 4.3 seconds with the manual transmission, while the optional automatic takes just four seconds.
The Porsche 911 Carrera T costs from £85,576, with deliveries starting in January.
