Ducati has pulled the covers off a revised version of its popular Monster 821 motorcycle.

The new bike is the first of five new models that the Italian manufacturer will release for the 2018 model year, and has been built to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original Monster 900.

The updated 821 boasts a new shape inspired by the design and features on the Monster 1200, with a redesigned tank and tail end. There’s also a new racing silencer, as well as a new headlight.

A colour TFT display that shows the selected gear and fuel indicators has been fitted, while the Ducati Quick Shift up/down and Ducati Multimedia Systems are available as optional extras.

Three colours are available on the new bike: Matte Black, Red and Ducati Yellow, which is exclusive to the 821.

Power comes from a liquid-cooled twin-cylinder Testastretta engine that develops 108bhp and 86Nm of torque at 7,750rpm for “exciting performance, easy riding and unmatched fun,” says Ducati.

The Ducati Safety Pack is also available with the 821, which includes Bosch ABS and Ducati Traction Control – both of which feature adjustable levels of intervention.

The Italian manufacturer said: “The 821 inherits all the character and charm of the first Monster 900, the model that injected new life in the naked racers’ segment – by successfully combining high performance, agility and rider-friendliness.”
