Suzuki reveals range of concepts ahead of Tokyo Motor Show

New concepts take styling cues from Vitara and Jimny models

Suzuki has revealed a range of new concept vehicles ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show.

The Japanese manufacturer will exhibit 20 cars at the show, on the theme of “Excitement for everyone, in everywhere”.

Headlining the exhibits is the e-Survivor— a compact SUV that Suzuki says is “of the next age”. It takes styling cues from the Jimny, and features an all-electric drivetrain with each wheel having an independent motor.

Alongside it will be two MPV concepts — the Spacia and Spacia Custom.

The Spacia model line has existed in Japan since 2013 and the concepts highlight potential second-generation models.  Although mechanically identical, the Spacia sports more conventional styling compared with the more aggressive-looking Custom.

A potential new model line will also be on show in the form of the XBee — a compact crossover that will be present in base, Outdoor Adventure and Street Adventure specs.

Suzuki says the XBee is aimed at drivers who “want to enjoy a cooler life” and is designed to fit all lifestyles — with Street Adventure targeted at the city driver and Outdoor Adventure targeted at the less urban customer.

Topping off the concept cars is the Carry Open-Air Market. It’s a compact van designed to be used mainly as a mobile shop, but also as a daily driver.

The concepts will be on display alongside Suzuki’s current and upcoming production offerings, such as the Vitara, Ignis and new Swift Sport.

The Tokyo Motor Show takes place from October 27 to November 5.
