TVR boss: “We’ll keep selling V8s until someone comes along and takes them away from us”

John Chasey sees no end just yet for high power sports cars

It seems no end is in sight for high-powered sports cars, according to TVR’s operations director John Chasey.

Speaking at the new TVR Griffith’s Goodwood Revival reveal, Chasey said “[TVR will] keep selling V8s until someone comes along and takes them away from us.”

Many purists will be pleased to hear this news, as TVR made a name for itself producing high power sports cars before ceasing all production in 2006.

The British manufacturer was bought in 2013 by entrepreneurs Les Edgar and John Chasey and today revealed its first production car since the takeover, which features a 5.0-litre Ford V8 engine.

Although petrol sports cars are very much in TVR’s plans, Chasey did accept that alternative fuel options will have to be considered at some point: “We can’t put our head in the sand though and we are aware we will need an alternative powertrain eventually”.

That may still be some time off though, with him adding: “I think with electric cars, and the larger manufacturers in particular, there’s almost a stampede.

“While there’s some great cars on sale, I don’t think the technology throughout the industry is there yet and petrol will be with us for some time

“For us, as TVR, we’re quite happy to keep pumping out V8 sports cars for as long as we can”.
