Motorists in London paying over £80 more than others for servicing work

New data has shown the effect that location has on servicing prices

Motorists in some parts of the country are paying £82.89 more than others for car servicing work.

Data has revealed that south west London is the most expensive place for a standard MOT, with motorists paying an average of £195.95.

The survey took into account the prices of 6,800 individual jobs undertaken at garages across the country.

Leicester followed in second place with an average cost of £187.85, followed third by Portsmouth with £186.08.

Scott Hamilton, managing director of MyCarNeedsA, which conducted the study, said: “Our research shows that motorists are paying a premium for servicing, MOT, brakes and clutches in certain parts of England.

“In fact, motorists are paying 73 per cent more for MOT and servicing in south west London than they are in Stoke-on-Trent less than 200 miles away.

“There is undoubtedly a postcode lottery and some motorists are being hit hard, paying over the odds for a standard MOT and servicing.”

Drivers in Stoke-on-Trent are experiencing the cheapest prices – with motorists paying £113.06 – a 42 per cent lower than the price paid in south west London.
