Jaguar introduce latest performance-focused engine

Jaguar has unveiled a new engine that will join the XE and XF saloons, as well as the F-Pace SUV ranges.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol unit benefits from the latest of Jaguar Land Rover’s engine technology, including twin-scroll turbochargers with new ceramic ball bearings that reduce friction and a high-flow compressor wheel to deliver enhanced performance. It will be constructed in Wolverhampton at JLR’s £500m Engine Manufacturing Centre.

In terms of performance, the engine produces 300bhp and 400Nm of torque, which Jaguar claims can take the F-PACE from 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds while achieving a fuel economy of 40mpg.

The XF will achieve 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds and 40mpg with the new Ingenium engine, while in the XE 0-60mph also comes in 5.5 seconds with 41.5mpg.

Discussing the engine, executive director of product engineering, Nick Rogers said: “We continue to broaden the range of our Ingenium engine family, giving customers more choice than ever before.

Our new 300bhp petrol engine provides the performance synonymous with Jaguar, while delivering enhanced fuel economy thanks to its state-of-the-art exhaust technology and pioneering valve train design. This clean and more efficient engine perfectly complements the advanced lightweight aluminium body structure of our XE, XF and F-Pace models.”

This is the fourth new engine in 2017 to be added to Jaguar’s line-up, following 200bhp and 250bhp versions of the 2.0-litre four cylinder, as well as a 240bhp 2.0-litre twin turbocharged diesel unit.
