Lamborghini has already sold 2017’s allocation of the Huracan Performante track-focused supercar.

Based on the brand’s entry-level supercar, the Performante is lighter, more powerful and comes with clever active aerodynamics for unparalleled grip on track.

And the technical wizardry alone has already wowed new and existing customers alike, as the Italian manufacturer has sold out the first-year allocation of cars – despite owners not having had the chance to drive one yet.

Federico Foschini, commercial director for Lamborghini, told the Press Association: “We already did a pre-selling phase and we already have almost 1,000 customers waiting for this car.

“So already, this year is full, and we’re starting to collect for next year.”

Asked whether buyers were existing customers or new to the brand, he said: “We are finding a lot of our existing customers are interested, but also other customers who are just in love with this type of car.

“Of course, there is the Porsche 911 GT3, there’s Mercedes and Ferrari, but lots of people have found this is the right car for them in our range.

“We’ve found it’s been an excellent opportunity to bring in customers from other brands – this car hasn’t even started production yet. We’ve only done motor show previews.”

Lamborghini is in the process of doubling its factory size to accommodate the new Urus SUV that will go on sale late next year.

Foschini said: “With the Urus, we expect a long waiting list, but we know that we cannot expect people to wait a year, maybe two, as they would with something like the Performante.

“We’re already working on improving this with the expanded facility, but also with improved dealership experience where customers can follow the progress of their Urus.”
